Learning More About 3D/4D Ultrasound & HD Ultrasound

The questions listed below are the most frequently asked questions about our Elective Prenatal Ultrasounds. Should you have any questions that are not answered below, please call us at (215) 945-8200 or drop us an email at info@fetalvisionimaging.com.

Where are you located?

Our ultrasound facility is located in Levittown, PA just 2 miles from Sesame Place and the Oxford Valley Mall, very easy to get to from I-95, Route 1 and the Pa Turnpike. We are conveniently located mid-way between Philadelphia, PA and Princeton, NJ. We proudly serve the surrounding Delaware Valley Region including all of Southeastern PA, as well as all of New Jersey and Delaware.

How soon can I find out if it’s a boy or a girl?

With new DNA testing, we can determine the gender of your baby as early as 9 weeks! If you are looking to find out the gender with the ultrasound, we can see gender and guarantee 100% accuracy beginning at 15 weeks of the pregnancy! We have NEVER BEEN WRONG on a gender in the 14+ years we have been in business and have corrected over 100 gender scans from ultrasounds performed elsewhere. Accurate gender determinations is something we take very seriously and take a lot of pride in having an unblemished track record!

When is the best time to have my 3D/4D Ultrasound?

For gender determination 15 weeks (which we guarantee 100% accurate). To see what your baby looks like with full facial features and pudgey cheeks, we strongly recommend as close to 28 weeks as possible. That is not to say we can’t see your baby well before or after that, however, 28 weeks is ideal because some babies run out of space once you get beyond 32 weeks. For twins and multiples we try to have mom come in as close to 24 weeks as possible.

Can I still get great images outside of the recommended time frame?

Yes! In fact some of the best images are captured later on in the pregnancy. However, everyone carries differently and has different conditions. Placental location and mom’s overall hydration status can have a dramatic impact on how well we see the baby beyond the recommended time frame. Water, water and more water is extremely important for a successful 3D/4D ultrasound session!

Can I bring my family and friends?

Yes! In fact, we encourage you to invite family and friends to attend your 3D/4D ultrasound session with us. This is a joyous and wonderful occasion; one that can be shared with your family and loved ones. We can comfortably accommodate 8 additional people on our extra large sectional sofa. Additional guests are more than welcome to attend. Our seating is specifically arranged so that everyone in your party will have an excellent view of our large screen displaying spectacular images of your baby!

Will I always get great images of my baby?

Usually, provided you have followed our detailed instructions with regards to hydrating yourself and you are coming in during the recommended time frame. However, on occasion, your baby or the placenta may be in a difficult position which can affect the clarity of your images. If the baby is in a difficult position and we cannot see your baby, we will invite you back for another session. Our goal is for you to leave our office with the absolute clearest images the industry can provide! Water, water, water!!!

But wait, why is the water drinking SOOOOOOO important?

We’re glad you asked! First and foremost, it is good for you and your baby! Drinking AT LEAST 100 ounces of water per day creates adequate amniotic fluid and that is how we see babies clearly with 3D/4D ultrasound. The more amniotic fluid you have, the more it pushes the uterine walls and placenta away from your baby which allows us to see your baby clearly! We STRONGLY ENCOURAGE mom to be staying away from any and all caffeine. Caffeine is a diuretic which lowers your amniotic fluid levels and has a negative impact on the clarity of your images. Typically, when mom’s do not drink the recommended water amounts over an extended period of time (typically 2 weeks) and/or are caffeine drinkers, those are the babies we may struggle to see well.  The more water you consistently drink over 100 ounces per day and the longer you are doing it, the clearer your ultrasound will be.  WE WANT YOU TO HAVE THE CLEAREST IMAGES POSSIBLE, SO PLEASE, START DRINKING WATER NOW and stay away from caffeine! It will pay off for you when you come in to see your baby with us!!

Do I need a full bladder?

Absolutely not! You can actually be comfortable for this ultrasound!

What if I don’t want to know the gender of my baby but I still want to have a 3D/4D Ultrasound?
No problem whatsoever! We have never ruined a surprise for anyone!

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, appointments are necessary for all of our services. Please note that Saturday and late afternoon appointments during the week tend to book rather quickly! Please schedule your appointment accordingly.
